Trinity Alps Village Project

What Is a Virtual Village?
Virtual Villages are membership-driven, grassroots, nonprofit organizations run by volunteers and/or paid staff.  They are designed to enable members to age safely and successfully in their own homes by coordinating volunteers to assist members with occasional tasks; providing referrals to trusted businesses for larger jobs; and facilitating access to already existing programs and services in the community.
The Trinity Alps Village Project is a ministry of Trinity Congregational United Church of Christ. The Trinity Alps Village Project Team will create a virtual village of people of all ages to help one another meet basic and essential needs including:
  • coordinating access to affordable services
  • providing volunteer services including transportation, home repairs, inspiring health and wellness programs, and social and educational activities
  • offering access to vetted and discounted service providers
  • helping with shopping at grocery stores and pharmacies
The project is anticipated to develop in two phases: the first phase is start-up, including an interest survey, website, advertising, virtual phone number and voice mail to give the project identity and accessibility.

The second phase is forming a membership organization to match volunteers and consumers.  Ultimately, the project will serve several communities throughout Trinity County, using Weaverville as the hub; eventually becoming self sustaining by the membership and community donations.

Virtual Villages address the problem of isolation by fostering interdependence, providing a structure to increase social engagement and supporting physical and mental well-being.  Think of it as neighbors helping neighbors, an unbroken circle of support. Through this approach, we will restore neighborliness and foster stronger networking between organizations and individuals who are able to share their strengths and resources.
